Rokeya Mou

Application Engineer

Career after Graduation:

After submitting my Master's thesis, which I completed at Fraunhofer IVI, Germany I began working as a research assistant at the prestigious AttoWorld research group in Munich. During my time there, I had the privilege of collaborating with brilliant minds, which initially inspired me to consider pursuing a PhD and continuing my research.

However, I soon received an offer from Heidelberg Instruments Mikrotechnik GmbH in Heidelberg, Germany to join their team as a System Engineer, working on their advanced lithography systems. Excited by the opportunity, I decided to set off on this journey, becoming a System Engineer for their maskless aligner for photolithography tool. This role has provided me with a tremendous experience in the field.

Current workplace
SUSS MicroTec Solutions GmbH & Co. KG
is one of the leading companies in Semiconductor Equipment manufacturing and I am working as an application Engineer in their Semiconductor wafer coating department. Our task is to develop and implement Semiconductor coating processes for volume production globally. Providing Customer Demos with close collaboration with the sales and Marketing teams. Implementation of process training and system acceptance tests worldwide at Customer sites. Creating a significant support to the R&D department for further development of SUSS systems. Presentation of semiconductor wafer coating technique, coating uniformity and after chemical development the specification of critical dimension results for internal, external at customer sites and at conferences.

Installations Worldwide
Finland, Taiwan, Sweden, Malaysia. Each project installation takes roughly about three to four weeks where in this given time period we have to reach customer specification for their processes with our tool and in the end provide customer training and present  final report.

What do you like most about your job?
A key highlight of my role as an Application Engineer at SUSS MicroTec is the variety of global projects I get to work on, which keeps the job exciting and challenging. I thrive on collaborating with motivated colleagues and clients, constantly learning and sharing knowledge. The practical aspect of developing semiconductor wafer coating processes, conducting demos, collaborating with sales is highly fulfilling. Additionally, my close involvement with the R&D team to enhance our systems keeps me engaged, and the technical challenges, combined with meeting customer specifications, make the work especially rewarding.

To what extent has the Lasers and Photonics programme helped you?

The Master's in Lasers and Photonics has been one of the best career decisions I've made. It provided me with a deep understanding of technology and its applications, which has been instrumental in my current role as an Application Engineer in the semiconductor industry. This solid academic foundation, coupled with my practical experience as an intern in one of the leading Laser manufacturing company TRUMPF SE + Co.KG in Ditzingen, Germany has made the transition from being a student to becoming a professional seamless. In my role, I’ve had the opportunity to work on numerous global projects and collaborate closely with R&D teams, which further enhanced my expertise in this field.
