Markus Lindemann received the award for his dissertation on the subject of ultra-fast spin lasers for the next generation of optical data transmission. A research result that has even been patented. For the first time, the award ceremony could not take place with a large party in attendance but only with the smallest group of moderators and via zoom.
First of all, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Ostendorf, in his role as Vice Rector for Research, Transfer and Young Scientists, made the rounds. Well-wishers and keynote speakers followed the award ceremony via video conference. Dr. Markus Brakmann from the Ministry of Economics, Innovation, Digitization and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia switched to Zoom after Mr. Ostendorf's introduction and once again highlighted the spirit of development and innovation in North Rhine-Westphalia. Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Stephan Reitzenstein from the Technical University of Berlin joined in and opened the evening's lecture entitled "Smaller, faster, smarter: Current developments and application perspectives of micro and nano lasers".
Shortly before 6 p.m. the time had finally come: Dr.-Ing. Ralf Berker, spokesman for the VDE state representation in North Rhine-Westphalia and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Rehtanz, chairman of the doctoral committee of the VDE LV NRW, ceremoniously presented the VDE doctoral award 2020 to Markus Lindemann. He then presented his dissertation and was then available to all participants on site and via zoom for questions. The faculty also warmly congratulates Mr. Lindemann on this award.
