Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (M.Sc.)

Applicants who have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and information technology or a comparable degree from a scientific university consisting of at least six semesters of study (three academic years, 180 ECTS) may be admitted to the master's programme.

The bachelor's degree submitted must include methodological and research-oriented content totalling at least 25 CP from the field of mathematics and a total of at least 50 CP from the fields of information technology and electrical engineering/electronics. The examination board may specify, as a condition, supplementary coursework and examinations totalling a maximum of 25 CP and the period for their completion if the aforementioned admission requirements are not met in full. These can be completed in part or in full as electives A provisional admission will be granted for the duration of these requirements.

All applicants for studies must demonstrate English language proficiency at least at level B2 at the time of enrollment, regardless of their chosen field of study. The following language certificates are accepted:

• German Abitur certificate
• UNIcert II® English: UNIcert II®
• IELTS Academic: min. 6
• TOEFL IBT (until 2026): min. 85
• TOEFL IBT (from 2026): min. 4.5
• PTE Academic: min. 55
• FCE (First Certificate in English)
• CAE (Certificate in Advanced English)
• CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English)
• DAAD language certificate (B2 result) 
• Certificate of completion for the intensive course „English for international students and prospective students (B2 – B2/C1)“ at RUB

Please note that a Certificate of Medium of Instruction will not be accepted.

Note for applicants to our English-thaught specializations:
If you do not yet have an accepted English language proficiency certificate at the time of application, you may submit it by the time of enrollment. Until then, the status of your application will remain “incomplete.” 

Note for applicants to our German-thaught or bilingual (Germen/English) specializations:
If you do not yet have an accepted English language proficiency certificate at the time of application, you may be granted provisional admission with conditions. An accepted English language proficiency certificate must then be submitted within the first semester.

Applicants who have not acquired their qualification for studies at a German-speaking institution and are applying for the following study specializations:

• Electromobility Systems
• Electronics
• Energy Systems Technology
• High-Frequency Sensors and Systems

In the second step, you apply for your study place in one of our specializations within the Master’s programme in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Here, you enter your details and upload your documents in a timely manner. In this step, you will also make a binding selection of one of our areas of specialization.

Notes for:
Domestic students and equivalent:
You can apply either with your final bachelor’s degree documents or with a transcript of records certifying at least 150 ECTS (for a 180 ECTS bachelor) or 180 ECTS (for a 210 ECTS bachelor).

Students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at RUB:

International students:
If you cannot yet provide a valid German language certificate at the time of application, this can be submitted later by the time of enrollment. Until then, your application status will remain “incomplete”. 

If your application meets all formal and content requirements, you will receive admission to the Master’s program in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Your admission letter will also include all information regarding any conditions, if your previous degree does not fully meet the content admission requirements.
