Plasma Jets

Plasma jets are sources of non-equilibrium plasma that sustain the thermal non-equilibrium through a steady gas flow. Just like any other cold plasma, its electrons and heavy particles have vastly different temperatures. The steady exchange of the (Neutralgashintergrund ???) prevents the alignment of the species temperatures.
Plasma jets are often used for surface treatment. Since plasma jets can also be used under atmospheric pressure, their field of application extends to biology and medicine. A plasma jet can be used indirectly for the treatment of open wounds. In this context, "indirect" means that the patient is not in direct contact with the plasma. The plasma creates reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) which are transported to the patient via the gas flow. Through this, wound healing processes are stimulated and intensified.
At the Chair of Theoretical Electrical Engineering, we deal with the mathematical and simulative characterisation of such plasma jets. One focus is on the clever use of the physical conditions for a computationally efficient modelling . The interaction of analytical modelling and numeric simulation through self developed codes is an important part in this endeavour.
