At the Faculty Colloquium on May 20, 2026, Managing Director Dr. Corinna Heldt welcomed the attendees to two exciting presentations on current research topics from the fields of Integrated Systems and Simply Complex Lab.
The first presentation was given by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Nils Pohl, Chair of Integrated Systems. Under the title "Filling the THz-Gap with Chips? – Silicon-based Radar towards higher Frequencies", he demonstrated how modern silicon-germanium technology enables the realization of compact radar chips reaching into the terahertz range and highlighted the potential these hold for industrial metrology and imaging applications.
The second presentation was given by Dr. Simon Spelthann from Simply Complex Lab on the topic "Colloidal Nanoparticles: Versatile Building Blocks for Photonics, Energy Applications, and Fundamental Research". He introduced three classes of nanoparticles – 2D semiconductor nanoplatelets, plasmonic gold nanorods, and lanthanide-activated nanocrystals – and presented their applications in new light sources, photo-flow reactors & H₂ electrolysis, as well as fundamental research.
The subsequent get-together with drinks and snacks gave attendees the opportunity for conversation and networking.
