TopING PhD program
TopING is the fast-track PhD program of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Ruhr University Bochum. It offers selected graduate students the opportunity to work on their own PhD thesis as a research assistant while still studying for their Master's degree.
This means that the entire training period up to the doctorate can be shortened by up to one year compared to the conventional course.
The doctoral topic is selected together with the supervising professor after the bachelor's degree. In the first year, the candidates regularly complete the compulsory part of the Master's program. This period is considered the qualification phase to prepare adequately for the doctoral program. At the same time, the candidates are already busy familiarizing themselves with the doctoral topic.
The modules of the master's degree that are still missing, such as seminars, internships, and the master's thesis, are then credited through the research work done at the institute. At the same time, these form the foundations of the doctorate. In this way, TopING offers an effective combination of a Master's degree and a doctorate with a shortened study period.
Advantages at a glance:
- Employment as a research assistant with a Bachelor's degree.
- The compulsory part of the Master's degree is credited as "Doctoral Preparatory Studies".
- A total of up to one year faster to the Dr.-Ing. degree.
