Tomography
Terahertz tomography is an advanced imaging technique that utilizes terahertz (THz) radiation, which lies between the microwave and infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. This non-invasive and non-destructive method allows for the examination of the internal structures of objects. Unlike X-rays, terahertz radiation is safe for people and does not require extra protection. It penetrates various non-metallic materials, such as ceramics, plastics, and textiles, making it ideal for applications in quality control and security screening. In a typical terahertz tomography setup, a sample is exposed to terahertz waves, and the transmitted or reflected signals are captured to construct a three-dimensional image, which reveals the internal features of the object.
In the video, the transmitter and the detector are in fixed positions while the object is first moved laterally and then rotated to capture projections from multiple angles. These obtained projections are compiled into the sinogram, which contains all the necessary information to reconstruct a detailed three-dimensional image.
