Seven researchers from Bochum are among the most cited in the world - including Prof. Dr. Tarik Taleb from the Chair of Networked Energy-efficient Systems at the Faculty of ETIT.

Two female researchers and five male researchers from Ruhr-Universität Bochum are among the most frequently cited researchers worldwide. This is according to the current list of "Highly Cited Researchers 2024" from 19 November 2024.

In detail, they are:

  • Prof. Dr. Tarik Taleb, Professor of Networked Energy Efficient Systems at Ruhr University Bochum, is researching the mobile network of the future. How can network latency be reduced and how can the transmission rate of a data connection be increased? And how can these optimisations be carried out autonomously - i.e. without much human intervention? These are some of the questions that Taleb wants to answer in his research projects.
  • Prof. Dr. Martina Flörke, Professor of Engineering Hydrology and Water Management at Ruhr University. Her research focuses on identifying and quantifying the consequences of global change for the environment and society, particularly in relation to the quantity and quality of surface waters.
  • Prof. Dr. Easo George, holder of the Chair of Materials Design at the Institute of Materials of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Ruhr University. His research interests include the phase stability and mechanical properties of high and medium entropy alloys.
  • Prof. Dr. Ralf Gutzmer, Director of the University Clinic for Dermatology, Venereology, Allergology and Phlebology at the Johannes Wesling Clinic in Minden (Ruhr University Hospital Bochum). He places a particular focus on the development of new care structures in the field of skin cancer. For example, outpatient specialist consultation hours for the treatment of skin cancer are to be set up.
  • Prof. Dr Catherine Heymans, Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Edinburgh and Director of the German Centre for Cosmological Lensing at Ruhr University. She is one of the world's leading experts on the physics of the so-called dark universe and will be the first woman to be appointed Astronomer Royal for Scotland in 2021.
  • Prof. Dr. Michael Nauck, Head of Diabetes Clinical Research at St Josef Hospital (Ruhr University Bochum Clinic). For 40 years, he has dedicated himself to the treatment and research of diabetes. The therapeutic principle of so-called GLP-1 receptor agonists, which he played a key role in developing, has helped millions of patients with type 2 diabetes.
  • Prof. Dr. Michael Nitsche, Professor at the Leibniz Institute for Human Factors Research at the Technical University of Dortmund and at the International Graduate School of Neuroscience at Ruhr University Bochum. His research interests include methods of non-invasive brain stimulation and cognitive neuroscience.
