Cooperation with Fraunhofer FHR
The possibility to integrate whole radar sensors on a chip currently revolutionises the whole radar technology. Integrated circuits have been used for decades in the radar sensors at Fraunhofer FHR. A designated at Fraunhofer FHR deals with the design of complex radar chips and enables radar systems that are more complex and cost effective. This cooperation in the are of integrated sensor systems was further strengthened after Professor Pohl joined the Institute of Integrated Systems at Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
Especially the design of the circuits is very intensive in ressources profits from the university research and therefore builds a bridge to the applied research of a Fraunhof Institute. One part of the team, which is lead by Professor Pohl and responsible for the chip design, works at Ruhr-Universität Bochum to strengthen the cooperation with Fraunhofer FHR. Based on a shared technology roadmap, several cooperative research projects have already started. The first radar chips from university research have already been successfully applied in the industry by Fraunhofer FHR.
