The Master's degree programme in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology prepares you for demanding research and development activities in industry or science through its application-oriented and scientifically sound education.
Admission requirements
You have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology or in a related subject from a German or international university and meet the admission requirements under § 2 of the current examination regulations (PO 2020).
Career prospects
After completing your Master's degree, you have the opportunity to enter industry or academia directly or to found a start-up. You can also do a doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) at our faculty after completing your Master's degree.

Application and enrolment
The Master's degree program ETIT is admission-free. Nevertheless, an online application is required. Please read the steps of the application and enrollment process carefully and note the application deadlines.
Master Info Event
At the annual Master Information Event, you can learn more about the specialization options in the ETIT master’s program and talk to the specialization coordinators to find the focus area that best matches your interests and academic background. The event takes place once a year in May or June.
Top.ING PhD program
Have you completed your Bachelor's degree particularly well and would like to do a doctorate? The Top.ING fast-track doctoral program of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Ruhr-Universität Bochum offers selected Bachelor's graduates the opportunity to work on their own dissertation as a research assistant during their Master's degree.

You decide for yourself which area of electrical engineering and information technology you would like to specialize in. Our specializations are closely linked to our research activities and form an excellent basis for a career in industry and research as well as for a subsequent doctorate.
The specializations of the Master's degree course in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology comprise a total of 120 credit points (CP), which are made up of compulsory subjects (30 CP), compulsory electives (30 CP), free electives (30 CP) and the Master's thesis (30 CP). This structure allows you to anchor your individual professional interests and career goals in your studies.
