Practice Project Cosima
Within the practice project it is possible to compete as a small group ( 2 people or more) in the VDE competition COSIMA (Competition of Students in Microssystems Applications)! Besides getting credited for the test performance, there is a chance to win awards and to travel to the international ICAN competition. Although the name of the competition is in English, the first round will be in German.
What is it about?
Develop an idea for an innovative utilisation of micro-sensors! - The motivation can come from personal environment, the necessary sensors will be sponsored by big companies. The realisation will be made possible at and by the chair of microsystems technology. There, the person in charge is M. Sc. Marius Hillebrand (E-Mail: marius.hillebrand(at)ruhr-uni-bochum.de). COSIMA counts on teams: Your team should consist of at least two but no more than four students.
According to the module catalogue, the practice project qualifies you for a concrete project development in the areas of project planning and management, technical implementation of demonstrators, cooperation and communication with internal and external partners and the presentation of the results. Of course you will be supported by the chair's team and supervised like in an internship. At the same time, it is YOUR creativity we want for the realisation.
The test performance is to be made until the end of the summer term. To do so, you have to turn in the project report at due date and you have to mark the individual contributions / foci. The Chair of Microsystemstechnology then guarantees the completion within the summer term and a scheduled beginning of your master's degree. The presentation in front of the competition jury takes place in October/November at the VDE and is not part of the test performance. Thus, your grade is not dependent on the result of the competition.
Ideally, you will complete the practice project while working on a part time bachelor's thesis. Creative breaks during which you deal with other topics can be beneficial. The Chair of Microsystems Technology offers bachelor's theses in an area of technology that is complementary to the COSIMA project: how are microsensors produced?
From sensor development to system development, there are many employes in the area of micro systems technology who are searching for engineers with this focus. Be it so-called "hidden champions", who are not necessarily well known, in the Ruhr Area or well known global market leaders like BOSCH, who are represented in every second smartphone with their sensors, and Infineon (MEMS microphones), they are all searching for young and motivated employees in the next years.
Taking part in the COSIMA competition is the icing on the cake for your CV for sure!
