Research at the faculty

Strong in research and unique in teaching is the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Ruhr-Universität Bochum.More than 20 professorsconduct research together with their teams and cover a wide range of topics in addition to the main areas of plasma technology, sensor technology and IT security, such as in communication technology, energy technology and medical technology.

Interdisciplinary top-level international research is conducted with industrial partners as well as in inter-faculty and inter-university clusters of excellence, collaborative research centers, research departments and the Center of Computer Science. State-of-the-art laboratories and the short distances of a campus university enable the bundling of various research competencies.

Cyber Security in the Age of Large-Scale Attackers (CASA).

To improve cybersecurity in ways that have a transformative impact on the scientific community and practice, CASA takes a holistic and comprehensive approach based on a unique and innovative combination of features. CASA's team and excellent academic and corporate network provide the foundation to ensure that our ambitious goals are fulfilled.

Horst-Görtz-Institute for IT-Security (HGI)

The HGI, Research Department of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB), is one of the largest and oldest institutes in the field of IT security in Europe. At the HGI, scientists conduct research in working groups of electrical engineering and information technology, mathematics and computer science as well as the humanities and social sciences. In this interdisciplinary environment, almost all aspects of IT security are covered. Since 2019, the HGI is home to the Cluster of Excellence "CASA: Cyber Security in the Age of Large-Scale Adversaries".

Center of Computer Science

The Center of Computer Science combines the research strength of excellent basic research and cutting-edge application fields. It uniquely links all working groups in the field of computer science and computer science and is jointly supported by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and the Faculty of Mathematics as a scientific institution.
