Dr.-Ing. Benedikt Sievert received the VDE NRW Doctoral Award 2025. The award ceremony took place on October 27, 2025, at the Fraunhofer Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Techniques (FHR) in Wachtberg and was presented by the spokesperson of VDE NRW, Dr.-Ing. Ralf Berker.
The award recognizes his doctoral dissertation on the development and analysis of on-chip antennas for terahertz applications. The research was conducted within the DFG project “MARIE – Mobile Material Characterization and Localization by Electromagnetic Sensing” and addresses key challenges of ongoing miniaturization in high- and ultra-high-frequency engineering, particularly with respect to antenna geometry, integration, and interconnects at very high frequencies.
As his primary supervisor, Prof. Dr. sc. tech. Daniel Erni (University of Duisburg-Essen), was unable to attend, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Nils Pohl, serving as second reviewer, introduced the award-winning work during the ceremony.
