What is the double degree?
One Programme. two degrees.
Since 2020 Ruhr University Bochum offers the possibility to receive the double Bachelor's degree (international double degree) for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in ccoperation with the partner university Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL) in Bogotá, where you will complete part of your degree.
The first four semesters you will study electrical engineering and information technology at Ruhr University Bochum, the last two semesters at UNAL in Bogotá. In Bochum you will take the regular mandatory modules and language classes to prepare yourself for your stay abroad. After the second semester, you then apply for the double degree programme. After a successful application process, you have two semesters to prepare for your stay abroad.
You then stay in Bogotá, Colombia for the entire fifth and sixth semester. There, you will go to lectures, participate in exciting research projects, while getting to know the country and its people.
You will also write your Bachelor's thesis in Colombia (in English). At the end, you will receive both the German and the Colombian Bachelor's certificate.
Why is the double degree interesting for me?
- You receive two degrees in one programme (a German and a Colombian Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineerintg and Information Technology).

Which requirements do I have to meet?
Firstly you have to enrol for the Bachelor programme Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Ruhr University Bochum and then you go to the regular lectures of the first four semesters. During that time, you can already take part in Spanish classes. The application for the double degree programme usually takes place after the second semester. The annaual deadline for the application is on September 30th.
When applying, the following criteria have to be met:
- 48 ECTS out of 60 in the first year of studies with an average grade of 68%.
- Language skills: Level A2 (B1 when starting your studies abroad the following year)
