International Day of Light 2022

Celebrate the IDL 2022 with us!

We want to invite you to join us for a day full of experiments and insights on our work related to light.

When: 22.06.2022 - 10:00 am - ~14:00am

Where: Ruhr University Bochum Chair for Photonics and Ultrafast Laser Science

Who: Pupils (age ~16+) interested in the topic "light and lasers" - free spots limited to 20

Requirements: Interest in physics, good understanding of english language, permission from school

For registering send an e-mail to puls-office(at) containing your name, age, grade and school you're currently visiting.

After registering you will receive a confirmation mail with more information

What to expect

We prepared a bunch of experiments around the topic of light. Most of them have an interactive component that let you experience the meanings of light within your daily surroundings. Some of them even lead to the field of Quantum Physics. Also we're providing insights on our work and research by having you visiting our lab and explain our daily business.

Microwave - We're not just going to heat something up, but taking a closer look on what is actually happening within a microwave and how we can measure the speed of light.

Spectrometer & Schlieren Imagining & Wind Tunnel - There's definetly more things around us than we can see - with our spectrometer experiment we're going to take a look at the invisble parts around us and with the Schlieren Imagining we will make air visible!

Polarization - What path is the light following and how can we change it?

Music-Laser - Let's make the light play it's melody.

Research Setup - Take a look at a dismantled laser and our research on affecting a Laser in new ways to improve medical process and the discovery of the universe.
