The Chair of Medical Engineering focuses on topics related to imaging as well as image and signal processing. The focus here is on ultrasound-based imaging and therapy methods. Research includes photoacoustic imaging, super-resolution imaging of the microvasculature by tracking individual contrast agent particles, as well as tomographic ultrasound reconstruction methods and ultrasound-based therapy and diagnosis methods with magnetic nanoparticles.
The chair is also involved in several medical research projects, for example, the SAMBA-PATI project combines therapeutic and imaging ultrasound with the novel imaging technology Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI). The CVent project focuses on the development of a photoacoustic imaging system for the diagnosis of atherosclerotic plaques.
